Josef Farbiarz: Our President, Josef obtained his M.S.C.E. degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where he stayed as Scientist Associate for three years. He has also been Structural Engineer for Maximum Potential Building Systems and President of International Technology Group, Inc. Currently he is also the Director of the Center for Projects and Investigations on Seismicity, CPIS, of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia at Medellín, where he is also an Associate Professor. He chairs the committees on Fire Protection and Complementary requirements of the Colombian National Earthquake Resistant Design and Construction Standards and is a member of its committees on concrete, masonry, steel, wood and residential design and construction. He chairs the ISO technical committee on Simplified Design of Concrete Structures and is the liaison member between ACI 318 and Colombia, since 2005. He is also a member of ACI 314.
Author of two books, "Hormigón, El Material" and "Todo lo que usted nunca quiso saber acerca del Sistema Internacional de Unidades ... y va a necesitar de todas maneras", has co-authored several others, of which “Instrumentación y Microzonificación Sísmica de la Ciudad de Medellín" got for its authors the National Engineering Award, Lorenzo Codazzi, for the year 2000, awarded by the Colombian Society of Civil Engineers.
Together with his ISD partners he also received from the Sociedad Antioqueña de Arquitectos e Ingenieros, the 2007 Engineering Award for their project of seismic retrofit of Medellín´s main soccer stadium.
Jesús H. Arango: A nationally and internationally renown consultant on concrete and masonry, Jesús is a graduate of the prestigiuous Facultad de Minas of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. He has been the Director of the Colombian Institute of Cement Producers, University professor not only at his Alma Mater, but in Universidad EAFIT and Universidad de Medellín, President of Antioquia´s Structural Engineers Association.and President for Ingeconcreto Ltda. The chair for the committee on masonry of the of the Colombian National Earthquake Resistant Design and Construction Standards, he is also a member of its committee on concrete design and construction.Álvaro Pérez: He got a Master´s degree on Soil dynamics and Construction from Karlsruhe Technical University, in Germany. He has been President of the Colombian Association of Earthquake engineering, President of Antioquia´s Civil Engineers Association, Director of Projects for Medellín Metro System, and President of Álvaro Pérez A. & Cía. Ltda. He is also an Associate Professor at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. He is a member of the committees on structural concrete and masonry of the Colombian National Earthquake Resistant Design and Construction Standards. Luis Garza: A renown national and international consultant on steel design and construction, Luis is a graduate of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, where he obtained both his undergraduate and his Master´s degrees. He has been a research assistant at the Instituto Mexicano De Planeación y Operación De Sistemas, Technical Director of Productos Laminados Garza and HEXACON S.A. de C.V, and President of Industrias del Hierro. He is also an Associate Professor at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. The chair for the committee on masonry of the Colombian National Earthquake Resistant Design and Construction Standards, he is also a member of its Board of Directors and of its committees on loads, fire protection and complementary requirements.
